This "walk" consisted of a visit first to the Washington Wetland Centre, followed by a visit to the village of Washington.

The Wetland Centre is a nature conservation area located in the wetlands and woodlands on the River Wear. Adjacent to the Visitor Centre (which includes shops, a cafe, and information) are areas where visitors can get up close to various water fowl and other birds.
However, there are also footpaths which take you down to the River Wear where you can observed wild life from several hides. There is probably a good couple of miles walking in this wetland area.

After visiting the Wetland Centre a visit was paid to the village of Washington. One of the highlights of any such visit is to call in at Washington Old Hall. But the centre of the village itself and its churches are also worthwhile visits.
