The memorial to the 42 lives lost in the Usworth Colliery Disaster of 2 March 1885. The memorial is in the Churchyard of Our Blessed Lady Immaculate Catholic Church, Washington. Usworth Colliery was a short distance away from Washington. Of the 42 lives lost, the oldest was a man of 75, and the youngest were two boys aged 14. Some of the men are buried in the churchyard.
